January 10-16

The Food Holidays for the week of January 10-16 are:

January 10 – National Bittersweet Chocolate Day
January 12 – National Marzipan Day
January 12 – National Curried Chicken Day
January 13 – National Peach Melba Day
January 14 – National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day
January 15 – National Strawberry Ice Cream Day
January 16 – National Fig Newton Day
January 16 – National Hot and Spicy Food Day

Thoughts on this week’s foods:

  • I’m choosing National Curried Chicken Day over National Marzipan Day and National Hot and Spicy Food Day over National Fig Newton Day.  This is mostly because I can make curried chicken and hot and spicy food healthier than something with marzipan or fig newtons.  Plus, I don’t think I have ever seen Marzipan in the grocery store, not that I’ve ever looked though…
  • I’m not a huge fan of pastrami, but, then again, I haven’t tried it since I was a kid.  I will try it once again for the sake of the project!
  • I would love to make Strawberry Ice Cream (or any kind of ice cream, for that matter), but that’s kind of difficult to do when you don’t own an ice cream maker.  So, I will have to settle for some store bought ice cream!

For sure, bring it over! I’m feeling a lot better today; my throat is definitely not as sore so let’s count on making peach melba and strawberry ice cream tomorrow!

Awesome! Glad you’re feeling better. I’ll grab the ingredients that we need for the strawberry ice cream before I come over. See you tomorrow…I can’t wait!

Couldn’t keep up with it on a daily basis but I intend to pop in and go for it when we need a celebration for the fun of it.

When I was shopping today I was searching the store for evaporated milk, and found Mazipan. I totally thought of your blog! So, next year if you do the day’s that you don’t do this year, keep in mind, Scolaris sells mazipan in the cake section 😉

Interesting… I would never think to find it there. But then again, I wouldn’t know where to start looking in the first place!
